Metro Nashville recently received a $1,588,275 Energy Efficient Schools Initiative grant to provide upgrades for lighting projects at Metro Schools.
The financial boost came from the Energy Efficient Schools Council Fund that has allocated $5,624,625 in grant and loan funds to all 136 K-12 school districts in Tennessee, EESI Executive Director Ron Graham said in a statement.
Most of the awards in the latest round up grants are for lighting projects with a few HVAC and kitchen equipment upgrades. Metro is among 14 school districts that received funds announced Monday.
School districts apply for these funds through applications EESI. Application forms for lighting, HVAC, kitchen equipment, motors and drives can be found on the EESI web site at www.tn.gov/eesi.
They "earned" it. ?
Sounds like taxpayer money to me.
The Energy Efficient Schools Council Fund was established with $90 million in excess lottery funds in the Energy Efficient Schools Initiative of 2008. The energy efficient projects implemented with incentive grants will actually save the taxpayers money by lowering energy costs at public school facilties. Incentive grants were allocated to all 136 public school districts across the state based upon $22 per student. This initiative allows every school district access to funds to implement energy efficient projects, lower utility bills, improve indoor air quality, create a better learning environment, and improve safety. We should thank our Legislators for creating this opportunity to improve our schools and thank all those who purchased a lottery ticket and hoped for a better future. The K-12 students across the state are our future and we are improving their facilities because we care about our kids and their future.
