Metro Police East Precinct officer John Cumberland has resigned from the department effective Thursday.
Cumberland was arrested last month on charges of drunken driving and possessing a firearm while under the influence of alcohol after he crashed his police vehicle in a ditch on Newsome Station Road. He was off-duty at the time of the crash.
The officer registered 0.12 percent in a breath alcohol test after the Sept. 24 crash, police said. A person is considered to be legally under the influence of alcohol with a reading of 0.08 percent.
The internal investigation of Cumberland, who was decommissioned on Sept. 24, ends with his resignation. He had been with the police department for five years.
DUI charges are still pending.
This is not the picture of the policeman I suspected. (the muscle bound guy with tattoos running wildly down his arms.) I see him in the White Bridge Road area getting his police car washed.
Are you the 'real' Frank Brown, Frank Aloysius Brown, Frank Hermione Brown or Frank Downtown Brown? The 'real' Frank Brown and the cop getting his car washed on White Bridge Road both want to know.
No, I am Frank Plain Brown.
