A tip from a student led to the arrest of a Maplewood High School student who allegedly brought a handgun to school Monday morning, Metro Police said.

James Flemmings Jr., 18, of Sunset Circle, told police he didn’t know the gun was in his coat pocket until he was already at school.

A teacher located the unloaded .22-caliber weapon in a classroom trashcan.

Flemmings left campus but was taken into custody a short time later on Maplewood Trace. He faces one charge of possession of a weapon on school property.
