Mike Minor was hardly an unknown commodity when he signed with Vanderbilt last year out of Forrest High in Lewisburg.

The 6-4 left-handed pitcher was drafted in the 13th round of the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays last June and could have launched a professional career right away.

Instead, he joined a talented pitching staff at Vanderbilt and is wasting no time in making his presence felt as a freshman. On Tuesday, he led the No. 1 Commodores to an 8-0 victory over Austin Peay at Hawkins Field by pitching eight innings and picking up his first career win.
