Members of the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force captured a violent murder suspect who was mistakenly released from prison due to a clerical error in May.

Convicted felon and fugitive Finis Lewis, 32, was arrested Sunday without incident as he was leaving the Day’s Inn on White Bridge Road in west Nashville.

Lewis was awaiting trial in the August 2008 fatal shooting of Kenneth Crawley, who was gunned down in the J.C. Napier Public Housing Development.

Crawley, 18, was on a bicycle when Lewis and a co-defendant allegedly emerged from a pickup truck and gunned him down.

Prior to his mistaken release May 14, Lewis had been in custody since Oct. 1, 2008. His bail on the murder charge is $750,000.

Lewis had been listed on the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Top 10 most wanted list since June 7.
