June Keel, assistant superintendent of Human Resources for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools, announced Monday that she will retire effective May 31, according to MNPS.

The district tapped Craig Ott, executive director of Human Resources Operations, to serve as interim director. Keel has worked with the district for more than eight years and has more than 35 years of education expertise.

“The district appreciates Dr. Keel for her outstanding service,” said Jesse Register, director of Metro Schools. “Her hard work and dedication have changed the way we recruit, retain and develop our teachers and support staff. We wish her only the very best in a long and healthy retirement.”

In 1983, Keel was hired to a supervisor position in the Personnel Department of Shelby County Schools and was eventually promoted to director of Certificated Personnel there before moving to Metro Nashville as the assistant superintendent of Human Resources in July 2003. This year completes her 43rd year as an educator.

Ott joined the district in 2011 and is responsible for the substitute office, employee benefits, recruiting and the benefits service center. He previously worked as the assistant director of Human Resources for Sumner County Schools following a career in the hospitality industry, including a decade as director of Human Resources for Marriott International.
