Police charged a 31-year-old mother Monday with child neglect after allegedly leaving her child home alone for more than half a day.
The mother, Christie McFall, is accused of going to work just before 11 a.m. on June 9 and leaving her 6-year-old son alone at home until she returned around 11 p.m. Police found the child playing outside early the next morning.
Police arrested McFall on a felony child neglect charge Monday. She posted a $2,500 bond and was released later that day.
According to an arrest warrant, when McFall returned home to find the door to her home open and her son missing, she looked around the home and property before calling a prayer line for help.
Police said McFall told them prayer counselors advised her to call police but she didn’t because she thought her son was just somewhere nearby. McFall said she went to bed instead.
When she awoke at 6:30 the next morning and the 6-year-old boy still wasn’t home, she checked with neighbors before calling the police.
Officers found the boy playing with a clothesline in the yard. Police said McFall admitted it wasn’t the first time she left her son alone while she went to work.
McFall doesn’t appear to have any previous charges filed against her.
