The National Endowment for the Arts has approved for the Nashville Civic Design Center a grant of $35,000 to support Design Your Neighborhood.

The NCDC is one of 1,057 not-for-profit organizations recommended for a grant as part of the federal agency’s first round of fiscal year 2011 grants. The Arts Endowment will distribute approximately $27 million to support projects nationwide.

“Receiving this prestigious grant for design innovation from the NEA is recognition of our work on a national level that continues to reinforce the importance of our mission for envisioning the future of Nashville,” Gary Gaston, NCDC design director, said in a release.

Design Your Neighborhood is a year-long project featuring an intensive four-week visioning process that engages inner-city high-risk youth on the topics of architecture, urban design, planning, graphic design and filmmaking.
