Monday, March 5, 2001 at 1:00am

We East Nashvillians are justifiably proud of the recent developments in our neighborhood. After bearing the brunt of the tornado of April 16, 1998, what was once the city's embarrassing stepchild has risen

Phoenix-like and is now poised to become one of the city's hippest and most desirable neighborhoods.

USA Today's ranking last week of the greater Nashville area as the nation's No. 1 sprawl capital has only upped East Nashville's worth. We are New Urbanism incarnate. We have sidewalks. We have diversity.
