TSU convocation features scholar
Tennessee State University will open its 89th academic year with convocation today at 9:30 a.m. in Kean Hall with Dr. Marquita Qualls, a 1994 graduate of the university and investigator with GlaxoSmithKline speaking.
Qualls attended TSU from 1991 through 1994 on a Presidential Scholarship and is the fourth African-American female to earn a Ph.D. in chemistry from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind.
Upon graduating from Purdue, Qualls accepted a position with GlaxoSmithKline, one of the world's largest research-based pharmaceutical and healthcare companies.
She is a national secretary for the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers.
