Old Hickory man convicted of rape, other charges in 2011 assault

Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 6:36pm

James Russell Jones, Jr., has been found guilty of aggravated rape, one count of aggravated sexual battery, one count of attempted aggravated rape and one count of assault by a Davidson County Criminal Court jury on Thursday.

The attacks occurred after Jones, of Old Hickory, took the victim to dinner in August 2011. Jones punched the victim in the head after he demanded sexual acts from her and refused to take her home.

Jones later drove the victim behind a strip mall and choked her to the point of unconsciousness. He took her to his home in Hermitage and forced her to have sex with him. Aided by a nearby resident the next morning, the victim was able to get away to a convenience store, where she called the police.

Jones is originally from Tennessee, but moved to South Carolina, where he was on parole before returning to Tennessee.

His sentencing is set for June 20, 2013.

Although there is not excuse for the man's behavior, let me guess how this "date" developed. She has three children, looking for a wallet to feed her young'uns, and was desperate for company. Must have been a Craigslist or Plentyoffish date.
