Paradox ... paradigm ... and politics as usual

Despite how the words "paradox" and "paradigm" may sound to Southern ears, on the printed page it is clear they are not two physicians or equal to 20 cents. My dictionary defines paradox as "exhibiting inexplicable or contradictory aspects." This seems an appropriate description of Gov. Don Sundquist campaigning with a pledge to veto a state income tax and then proposing the very same before the ink on his second inaugural papers was dry.
