Pedestrian bridge traffic concern on Rutledge Hill

Citing problems involving theft and vandalism, some business owners in the Rutledge Hill neighborhood south of downtown say they want a pedestrian bridge that connects their area to the J.C. Napier public housing complex either to be closed permanently or off limits at night.

According to Rutledge Hill businessman Andy Garmezy, the bridge, which spans Interstate 40 from the Lindsley Avenue/Academy Place intersection in Rutledge Hill to Carroll Street in the Napier complex, invites criminal activity.
