After spending years in Section 8 housing, LaShonda Miller now has a place that she and her two daughters can call their own.
U.S. Rep. Bob Clement presented Miller with the key to her new home yesterday at a special gathering that was held to announce the Section 8 to Homeownership program.
Nashville has been selected to test a national pilot program that helps low income, working families move from renting to home ownership. Candidates for the program include those who had been in Section 8 housing, which means their rent was being subsidized through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), but now have chosen to participate in a program that will allow them to use their HUD Section 8 rental assistance vouchers toward home ownership.
