Police seized more than 1,000 grams of hallucinogenic mushrooms and items used to grow them after a citizen’s tip led them to the grow operation at 744 Vernon Avenue in west Nashville.

According to police, Christopher Barnett, 27, lives at the residence and admitted to growing the mushrooms for resale. Police seized during the consent search 23 jars of live cultured hallucinogenic mushrooms, 91.7 grams of processed hallucinogenic mushrooms, 1,096.3 grams of live hallucinogenic mushrooms, syringes and jars containing spores and mycelia, as well as 2.4 grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and materials used to grow illegal mushrooms.

Police charged Barnett with felony drug possession in a drug-free zone, because the house is within 1,000 feet of West Park on Morrow Road. He was also charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Barnett is being held on $57,000 bond.

He conscented to a "consent search"? What a moron. At least have the brains to tell the cops to get a warrant, then in the 12-24 hours burn the stuff.
Or at least eat a pound of 'shrooms and see God while you're off to jail.

What are you trying to say gig?

Breaking it down: 28 grams = 1 ounce
1. 91.7 grams of processed mushroom equal 3.25 ounces
2. Are the 23 jars of live mushroom and the 1,096 grams of live mushrooms the same thing? I don't know but it sounds like that from the article and then if yes, it would process down to a small amount like 100 grams. Most of the plant is thrown away? So he had 3 ounces that would be eventually sold out of the 23 jars plus the 3 ounces he already processed or 6 ounces? About what is in a can of $.75 tuna fish.
3. 2.4 grams of grass. that is less than 1/10th of a ounce. Not much.
Why does he have syringes? The Indians chewed mushrooms. I have a hard time growing tomatoes but the article seemed to embellish the bust somewhat. $57,000 is a big bond amount.

Gigibagoly, did you find a jar with mushrooms in it? If so, did you eat the contents of that jar?

I'm trying to figure out where the victim is in all this?

Man grows mushroom, sells it to someone else who wants a mushroom. They get high or whatever.

Does this lead to thievery murder and civil unrest?

Good point Amy. Meanwhile, people are bending over backwards to make it legal to carry a gun in a bar. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

By: DDG on 5/21/10 at 12:01

Amy, there is no way that this could lead to illegal activity. I mean, people on hallucinagens would never commit a crime, or attack someone else, or do anything illegal. (that's sarcasm btw)

By: dangerlover on 5/21/10 at 12:10

That's a good point too, DDG. And reefer turns you into a bloodthirsty monster! To be fair, alcohol makes people do stupid and illegal things too...but it's perfectly legal.

This is bad news for Bonnaroo goers and other non-shower taking hippies.
