Police in West Nashville have arrested a man they believe may be responsible for 11 residential burglaries last month.

West Precinct detectives arrested 26-year-old Matthew Vitalis last week on two outstanding probation violations. He became a suspect after allegedly leaving behind a backpack at a burglarized home on Davidson Drive on March 29.

According to Metro police, Vitalis admitted to 11 home break-ins starting in early March and including locations on Pennywell Drive, Russleo Drive, Davidson Drive, Cross Creek Road, Park Lane, Castleman Drive, Lindawood Drive, Wallace Lane and three on Trimble Road.

Vitalis remains in jail after police charged Thursday with the Pennywell Drive burglary. Warrants charging Vitalis with the other 10 break-ins were issued Monday.

Vitalis had been staying at the Comfort Inn on White Bridge Place and said he broke into the homes to support a drug habit, according to police.
