Metro Police say illegal drug activity was likely involved in a fatal shooting over the weekend in East Nashville.

Vincent E. Perkins, 25, of Herman Street, was shot to death at 7:20 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Howard and Oxford avenues.

Police say Perkins, who had a prior felony drug possession conviction in Sumner County in 2006, was apparently running from the suspect or suspects when he was shot.

He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died, police said.

East Precinct detectives are pursuing active leads in this case.

Anyone with information about the person or persons responsible is urged to contact East Precinct Investigations at 862-7525 or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME. Those who contact Crime Stoppers qualify for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
