Police Monday afternoon said they expected to charge a convicted felon with attempted murder and especially aggravated robbery in Saturday night’s drunken altercation outside of an Edmonson Pike bar.
Morgan Roa, who suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the chest during the incident, is expected to be arrested following his release from a hospital.
Metro police believe Roa, 29, beat one man and shot another shortly before midnight Saturday outside the Time Out Bar at 5513 Edmondson Pike.
According to police, Roa drove into the bar’s parking lot in a white Cadillac with loud music playing, when Ryan Tillman, 29, who had just left the bar, started dancing to Roa’s music.
That led to Roa and Tillman exchanging words, before Roa allegedly got out of his car and beat Tillman with a pistol.
Police said a friend of Tillman, 28-year-old Christopher Martin, got his own gun from his vehicle and tried to intervene. Martin told police that Roa pointed a gun at him, before they both shot at each other.
Martin suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his head. Roa was hit in the chest. Both men were expected to recover.
Police said all three men had been drinking prior to the shooting.
Roa was free on $33,500 bond following an October arrest for aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, vandalism and driving on a revoked license. He has previous convictions for felony aggravated assault, unlawful gun possession and DUI.
