The Metro Nashville Police Department is trying to locate a man who stole a vehicle with two young children in the back seat early Friday morning.

The children's mother, 24, went into Dunkin Donuts off 5th Avenue North at 6:35 a.m. in downtown Nashville to receive a paycheck and left her two children, ages 1 and 5, in the back seat of the car.

The man, described by the five-year-old as thin and black, dropped off the car near Bicentennial Mall, where it was recovered roughly 10 minutes later, according to police. The children were unharmed.

MNPD spokeswoman Kris Mumford said the Youth Services Division and the District Attorney's Office are investigating the case to determine whether charges will be filed against the mother. The Department of Children's Services is also reviewing the case.

MNPD is asking anyone with information about the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 615-74-CRIME.

Youth Services and should give this woman a citation of merit. She has a job and is supporting two kids.

This is bad publicity if the powers that are pursue the mother before finding the criminal.
