Police ID man found fatally shot near Nashville General Hospital

Metro police have identified 62-year-old Gene Brodie as the victim of a fatal shooting early Tuesday

Security personnel from Fisk University and Meharry Medical College found Brodie's body on a sidewalk at Dr. D.B. Todd Jr. Boulevard and Albion Street near Nashville General Hospital at Meharry between 1:30 and 1:50 a.m. Tuesday, according to police. Brodie was a resident of nearby Buchanan Street.

Detectives believe someone on foot shot Brodie at close range minutes before security found the man’s body. Police have not determined a motive and the investigation continues.

Police have asked anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.

This is a very sad day for me and my family no one deserves to die by a gun My uncle left me his mother and brothers and children and for what we do not even know what is this world coming too I hope and pray my uncle gets justice he did not deserve this he had one leg come on people please please if anyone knows anything please call crime stoppers my grandmother his mother is 84 years old she is not able to travel to be able to view her son's body nashville please keep my family in your prayers We will miss you uncle and will always love you
