Metro police say excessive speed was likely a factor in a fiery single-vehicle crash Monday night at the intersection of Dickerson Road and Doverside Drive in north Nashville.
Ivory Kelly, 24, of Inglewood Lane, was driving a 1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass eastbound on Doverside Drive when he failed to negotiate a curve, police said. The car traveled 300 feet through a field before it crossed back over Doverside Drive and struck the Skyline Commons shopping center sign with such force that the engine was pushed into the back seat. The Oldsmobile burst into flames.
Kelly, the sole occupant of the car, died on impact just after 8 p.m.
Police said there was no evidence of alcohol or drug involvement at the scene.
