Metro police have identified the man killed Monday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 40 East at Donelson Pike.
Sterling Newton Harris IV, 28, of Simmons Avenue, was driving his 1999 Dodge Dakota pickup truck eastbound on I-40 when, for reasons unknown, he swerved to the left and lost control of his vehicle at 12:30 a.m., police said. The pickup struck the median wall and then traveled back across six lanes of traffic before hitting the guardrail.
Harris, the sole occupant in the truck, died on the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.
Police said there was no evidence of alcohol or drug involvement at the scene. The contributing factor to this crash appears to be Harris’ failure to keep his vehicle in the proper lane.
