Metro Police say alcohol and texting may have been contributing factors in a fatal single-vehicle crash at 4 a.m. Sunday on the westbound Murfreesboro Pike exit ramp from Interstate 24.

Miguel Castillo Valencia, 31, of Packard Drive, was killed in the crash.

Police say Valencia lost control of his 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer on the ramp. The vehicle slid sideways and then rolled several times.

His passenger, Beatriz Del Carmen Ortiz Balcazar, 25, also of Packard Drive, was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

There was evidence of alcohol in and around the Trailblazer, police said. Two cell phones were recovered at the scene, one of which had an incomplete text message.

The Medical Examiner’s Office will test Valencia’s blood for alcohol and drug content. Valencia was driving on a suspended license.
