The driver of Nissan pickup truck that allegedly struck and critically injured a pedestrian on Bell Road Monday night contacted police after seeing news reports.

Cary Holmes, 22, was walking northbound on Bell Road near her apartment complex when she was struck at 7:45 p.m. She is in critical condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Police said the passenger in the hit-and-run vehicle returned to the scene and reported that he told the driver to stop but he refused. The passenger told investigators they had both been drinking prior to the crash.

The crash is still under investigation.
