Metro police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a woman who has stolen at least eight wallets from west Nashville stores in the last two weeks.

The suspect is described as a black woman in her mid to late 40s who is approximately 5 feet, 2 inches tall and who weighs approximately 170 pounds.

In each of the cases, the short woman strikes after asking for help reaching an item on a high shelf. When the victim turns to help the woman, their wallets are stolen from their purses left in shopping carts.

The thefts have occurred primarily at Target, Walmart and Costco stores on Charlotte Pike.

Anyone who has information concerning these thefts is urged to contact West Precinct Detective James Slusser at 862-7382 or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
