Police officer shot in training accident

Franklin Police Sgt. Ray Dilworth was shot in the head with a non-lethal training round during a training exercise Tuesday afternoon.

Dilworth, a 23-year Franklin Police veteran, suffered a concussion and was admitted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s trauma unit.

Officers were using Simunition training cartridges Tuesday when the incident occurred. Simunition is a brand of field training equipment that is used to covert service weapons for non-lethal training purposes.

Dilworth was conscious and visiting with his family last night.

He oversees the department’s Field Training and Evaluation Program was injured at Franklin’s Municipal Training Center on Century Court.
