A 10-year-old girl has told Metro police a man may have tried to kidnap her while she and her friends played outside earlier this month.
The girl’s mother reported the incident to police last Friday after her daughter said a man tried to coerce the 10-year-old into entering his car on the afternoon of March 5 while the children played outside and across the street from the girl’s home on Sunnymeade Drive in East Nashville.
According to a police report, the girl described the suspect as a white male with brown hair and in his 20s or 30s who drove up alongside the children in a black, new-looking, four-door car facing Gallatin Pike.
The man allegedly told the girl, “I’m your mom’s friend and your mom said we had to go somewhere, so you need to get in the car.”
The girl, knowing her mom was at home, ran from the area along with her friends. She told police the suspect drove off toward Gallatin Pike.
Police spokeswoman Kristin Mumford said investigators with the department’s Youth Services Division have interviewed the girl’s mother and will conduct a follow-up interview with the girl and her friends.
The girl told police she didn’t think about telling her mom until last Friday.
