Richland neighbors fear Watkins growth

Residents of the Richland Park neighborhood say they would welcome Watkins College of Art & Design as a neighbor only if the school is willing to maintain its present enrollment of approximately 367 students.

Watkins is considering purchasing the Free Will Baptist Bible College campus that runs along West End Avenue just west of Interstate 440. Free Will officials, who want to construct a new campus near Joelton, are asking roughly $14.8 million for the land and buildings.

Tom Truitt, president of the Richland-West End Neighborhood Association and a resident of Richland Avenue, said most residents in the historic neighborhood like the thought of having Watkins nearby. Some of those residents have attended Watkins and/or have donated money to the school.

Many would like to see Free Will
