In its regular meeting Tuesday night, the Metro school board voted to add 30 minutes to the school day at every public school in Nashville for a 28-day window this spring.

The new schedule will stretch from Monday, March 8 through Wednesday, April 28.

The extra half-hour will make up for unplanned snow days taken during a particularly eventful winter. The district had planned for five snow days; it used seven.

School hours will return to normal from April 19-23 for the annual TCAP testing.

The new hours apply to all Metro Nashville public schools except charter schools. A decision has not been made on whether to add the extra time to the beginning or end of the day. Metro schools are in negotiations with the Metro Transit Authority to decide where to add the extra half-hour.

These dates don't seem to add up correctly. MNPS' calendar for this year shows TCAP testing is the week of Apr 5-9.
