Senate OK eases way to develop toxic land

A controversial proposal to make it easier to clean up and develop toxic or polluted property in cities passed the Tennessee State Senate 33-0 Monday, despite continuing opposition from some environmental groups.

The brownfields voluntary redevelopment act slipped easily through the Senate but is expected to be the focus of more arguments this Wednesday in a House subcommittee.
