The Tennessee State Fairgrounds is about to receive a new tenant.

Earlier this week Senior Citizens Inc., a Nashville-based non-profit that works with older adults, signed a 40-year lease at the rate of $1 per year for the use of 2.75 acres in the northwest corner of the fairgrounds. The organization plans to raze the red brick building that currently stands on the site and build a new facility to house its headquarters.

The arrival of an active, grassroots organization is expected to help the fairgrounds become a more integrated part of the nearby Vine Hill neighborhood, said Jennifer Hill, manager of the Tennessee State Fairgrounds.
