Sentencing of child rapist delayed

Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at 8:54pm

A sentencing hearing for a man convicted of raping a 10-year-old girl was delayed until May 7, pending the completion of a psychosexual assessment.

On March 3, a jury convicted Mauricio Alberto Morales on three counts of rape of a child, one count of aggravated sexual battery and one count of aggravated burglary.

The girl took the stand in that trial and identified Morales as the man who woke her up one April night in 2009 and sexually assaulted her more than once. Police said Morales broke into the condo near Old Hickory Boulevard and Nolensville Pike, where the girl and her mother lived.

In other cases, Morales faces four counts of aggravated rape and one count of aggravated burglary in a second incident as well as aggravated burglary, aggravated rape and child abuse in a third.

His next trial date is set for July 19.

BEOWULF: Morales certainly has no morals. What good is an assessment? His actions have already proved his predilection and experience has shown that pedophiles reoffend upon release from prison. LIFE W/O PAROLE or better yet, the NEEDLE! Otherwise, his next victim may not live to testify.

I agree with you, BEOWULF. This man will never change. Whose child is next in line for him to rape and possibly murder.

Think about it, you legal nuts, will he let his next victim live to testify against him? Your child may be next.

Who cares if this guy is sane or insane? Let the punishment fit the crime. Get his sorry-butt off the streets and locked up somewhere so he doesn't victimize someone else.

I agree, stlgtr55. The best and least expensive way would be to cremate them before they are put to death. That way you would know they would never create another crime. And we wouldn't have to pay for their room and board with guaranteed medical care.

The way our 'so called' government is snow spending our money we could sure use it.
