The San Jose Sharks added a surprise for the Nashville Predators.
The addition of right wing Bill Guerin from the St. Louis Blues should make the Sharks an even better team.
Guerin was considered by most to be the best player available during the trade period behind center Peter Forsberg, who was obtained from Philadelphia by the Predators.
Guerin said he heard his name associated with about 15 teams, but was only asked by St. Louis Blues management about one team, San Jose. He agreed to a trade to the Sharks due to his desire to be a part of a Stanley Cup playoff team.
The St. Louis Blues received left wing Ville Nieminen, prospect Jay Barriball and a first round draft choice in the 2007 Entry Draft.
Though Guerin was having difficulties with airplane connections to the West Coast Tuesday evening, he planned to be in San Jose in time for the morning skate and is expected to be in the lineup tonight when the Predators visit the Sharks at 9:30.
Also trying to make it in time for the Predators game is defenseman Craig Rivet, obtained from the Montreal Canadiens by San Jose Sunday.
