The Nashville Fire Department has confirmed that a 6-year-old boy died from injuries suffered in an early morning house fire at 523 S. 10th St.

Fire crews responded to the fire shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday to find the home engulfed in heavy flames and smoke, according to Deputy Chief Kim Lawson of the fire department. Firefighters found Cortaviz Green in a bedroom inside the home and rescued him.

Green was taken to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital where he later died of apparent smoke inhalation.

Lawson said the cause of the fire was a couch being too close to a wall heater. There were no working smoke detectors inside the home.

Metro police said detectives the Youth Services division is investigating the fire along with the Metro fire marshal because Green had apparently been left alone inside the home.

Leaving kids unattended... a sad commentary on the irresponsibility of so many "adults" in America. Where was the kid's father? Why did his mother entrust this jerk with her child? Too many people are unqualified to have children. Tragedy... and an argument in favor of forced abortions.
