FAMC exempts 'Dore
Sarah Jacobs, a senior on the Vanderbilt women's golf team, has accepted one of the sponsor's exemptions to play in the LPGA Franklin American Mortgage Championship set for May 13-16 at The Legends Club. Jacobs accepted one of the two sponsor's exemptions into the field. The other will go to the third-place finisher in the May 10 tourney qualifier.
Thompson to Sounds
The Pittsburgh Pirates reacquired outfielder Rich Thompson from Kansas City after the Rule 5 pick was recently removed from the Royals' 40-man roster, designated for assignment, and cleared waivers. Thompson, 24, spent the second half of the 2003 campaign with the Sounds after being acquired from Toronto in exchange pitcher John Wasdin. Thompson is expected to be added to the Sounds roster on Saturday.
BCS makes change
Computers won't play as large a role in determining the teams that play for title of college football's Bowl Championship Series. The formula used by the BCS to determine the top two teams came under criticism last season when Oklahoma was picked to play in the championship game, even though the Sooners were ranked behind Southern California and LSU.
Bonds' trainer searched
Federal investigators found vials of suspected steroids and human growth hormone as well as more than 100 syringes in a search of the home and car of Greg Anderson, personal trainer of Barry Bonds, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. A government document describes 32 vials, some with labels showing they contained steroids or human growth hormone, 12 plastic containers with various creams and liquids, 130 syringes, six needles, 178 pills and 61 alcohol pads, the paper reported.
