Defending Class A state champions Franklin Road Academy are headed back to Chattanooga after defeating Cascade 12-2 in the sectionals Friday. The Panthers are set to go up against Jackson's University School Tuesday.
Class AA David Lipscomb is also headed to Chattanooga after a 6-4 Friday night win over Marshal County.
"Friday was one of those games that was kind of classic," Lipscomb coach Ernie Smith said. "Marshall County has always been a rival with us and baseball has always been a big sport between the two of us so it was a big win. They have a very, very sound team; they always have, so we knew it was going to be tough going in." They've always got a good crowd that follows them and we had a real good crowd at our game, a lot of people there, so it was exciting."
Smith said his squad got five runs in the first inning which allowed them to hold on but had a difficult time naming specific players who added to the win, because according to him, so many of them have helped out.
