A system producing strong thunderstorms — capable of producing damaging winds and small hail — is moving across the northern half of Middle Tennessee including the Metro Nashville area, the National Weather Service reports.

These storms are part of a cold front pushing into the area from the west and are expected to continue Wednesday afternoon into the night and predawn hours Thursday.

The atmosphere will be very moist thus thunderstorms will produce very heavy downpours and possibly localized flash flooding. Heavy downpours may cause standing water on the roadways.

A lingering frontal boundary will help set off scattered to possibly numerous thunderstorms Thursday. Isolated thunderstorms will continue through the weekend — mainly in the afternoons and evenings.
