Sundquist: sales tax hike should not fund budget

Gov. Don Sundquist threatened Tuesday to veto any state budget funded solely by an increase in the state retail sales tax.

The statement dashed hopes the General Assembly might enact a modest retail sales tax hike and finish by the end of this week. The mere paperwork accompanying a veto would probably extend a session into next week.
