Tennessee Department of Transportation officials say traffic flow patterns have changed for the better near Downtown since the re-designation of Interstate 65 last October.
Deborah Fehr, a TDOT spokesperson, said more motorists are traveling west of Downtown along what had been the roughly two-mile stretch designated as I-265. In an effort to divert drivers to the west, I-265 was renumbered as I-65. This has balanced traffic patterns along the loop, Fehr said.
TDOT Commissioner Bruce Saltsman said the agency has achieved its goal of a more car-balanced loop.
