Vanderbilt University has developed a new civil engineering program that will focus on building more effective and terrorist-proof healthcare environments such as emergency departments and other trauma units. The curriculum is the first of its kind in the country.
Vanderbilt Chair of Civil and Environmental Engineering Department David S. Kosson said even though the university had been in talks about a healthcare construction program before the Sept. 11 attacks, it was even clearer afterward that the country needed to begin looking in the direction of how healthcare facilities could be built stronger and more effectively.
