Metro Police say a group of people worked for as long as an hour to steal an ATM from a south Nashville bank, but they didn’t get far once they loosed the machine.

The ATM and the chains used to steal it were found nearby on Grandview Avenue. No money had been taken.

Police say the alarm at a Regions Bank on Nolensville Road went off at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. The ATM was found early Wednesday morning.

Surveillance cameras were moved likely to hide the identities of the would-be thieves, but police say they have pictures of the suspects on surveillance video.

"We'll be looking at some information here at the scene, some forensic evidence that needs to be looked at, and the video tape from the bank," Sgt. Joe Towers told WKRN. "And, we've got detectives canvassing the area, interviewing folks and seeing if there's any other business video in the area that can help us to ascertain the individuals involved."

Anyone with information on this or any other crime should call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
