A south Nashville toddler was struck and killed Saturday afternoon as he was running to meet his father who was getting off work at Las Palmas on Nolensville Road.

Jorge Sanchez Jr., 3, darted into the path of an Econoline van that was traveling in the alleyway behind the shopping center, police said.

Jorge was waiting with his mother and younger brother in the alleyway when he ran between two parked cars and into the van’s path.

Robert Cole Sr., 69, of Portland, the driver of the Econoline van, told police he was watching Jorge’s mother and the other child and did not see the toddler run in front of his vehicle.

Jorge, of Apache Trail, was rushed to Southern Hills Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

No charges are expected to be placed against Cole, police said.
