Tennessee State continued its nosedive in the Ohio Valley Conference, falling on the road to Samford 31-11 Saturday.
TSU (2-6, 1-3) has now been manhandled in two consecutive OVC contests. The Tigers lost by 30 to Jacksonville State last week.
This time TSU was undone by its own mistakes. Two first-half fumbles by TSU allowed Samford (5-4, 4-2) to build a commanding 21-3 lead. For the game, the Tigers lost three fumbles. Javarris Williams, Gerald Morrow and Jerald Cook were the guilty fumbling parties for TSU. Morrow and Cook both fumbled the ball away against JSU last week as well.
Cook did throw a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, a 6-yard strike to senior Fred Burnette in the first half. Eric Benson had a 45-yard field goal in the first half and that was all the scoring TSU could manage.
Brentwood Academy graduate Jefferson Adcock paced Samford. He had 13 carries for 81 yards and two touchdowns.
Burnette led the TSU offense with seven catches for 74 yards and the touchdown.
Next week TSU returns to Nashville for its homecoming game against Eastern Illinois.
