State Rep. Rob Briley has been located on the gambling floor of a Tunica, Miss. casino today after going missing Wednesday, Metro Police reported.
A lieutenant from the Tunica County Sheriff’s Office talked with Briley and found that Briley “appeared coherent and not in distress,” Metro Police’s Don Aaron said in a statement.
Briley was told that his family and friends were worried about him and would like him to make contact.
But Briley “did not say or do anything that warranted him being taken into custody,” the statement read.
David Briley, Rob’s brother, had filed a missing person’s report late Wednesday night after Briley had checked out of rehab.
After leaving the treatment facility at Cumberland Heights, Briley (D-Nashville) rented a 2008 red Ford Mustang, according to the missing person’s report that David Briley filed.
Rob Briley called David Briley and his cell phone was tracked to Memphis. Rob Briley “made overtones” of being suicidal, according to the police report.
The report also says that Metro police advised Memphis Police that Briley “wanted to go to Key West, (Fla.).”
Memphis police were sent to evaluate Briley.
According to the police report, Rob Briley was upset over an article in the Nashville Scene printed Wednesday.
The Scene article accused Briley of marital infidelity.
Briley checked into rehab after being charged with two felonies and several misdemeanors resulting from two separate incidents in DeKalb and Wilson counties. Briley allegedly was driving drunk.
I do not have an opinion. I have not read the article in the Science conerning Briley.Find him.
I was sympathetic until now.He should resign and seek long term help until he can get his life back on track.Nothing or no one is worth giving up on life.
I'm no fan of the Brileys, but this is an example of the parasitic and vicious nature of "alternative" journalism in modern America. So many who work for rags like the Scene are incompetents who resent anyone who is in a better economic, social or political position, and will do just about anything in order to inflict any damage on anyone they can.
The Scene story was way way over the line. Regardless of what you think of the underlying behavior, the Scene writer (who has a history of not being too terribly concerned about the truth of what he writes so long as it hurts someone)did a real hatchet job on the guy to say nothing of the female invlouved was was accused of basicly striping the guy of his free will with her "wonmanly ways". Read like a dime novel written in the 1850's. The Scene is a mere shell of its former self. The City Paper, although not an alternative paper by any test, does fill the void, left by the Scene's sad demise, of a place to get real news and not dribble disgised as news.
The Scene article truly was horrid. It's like they take pride and pleasure in spreading bad news. Yeah, the writer does have a reputation of enjoying dragging people through the mud.
Oh, please, exportlaw. So it's The Scene's fault? Did anyone at the Scene make Rob Briley, a married man, have an affair with a lobbyist who makes her living passing and killing bills in his committee? Did anyone at The Scene hold a gun to his head while he sucked down drink after drink? Did anyone at The Scene make him rear end someone, run from the law, resist arrest and try to kick out a window on the police car? Did anyone at The Scene make him list his mistress as next of kin on the police report? Did anyone at The Scene have David Briley thrown out of Legislative Plaza by state troopers? Did anyone at The Scene bring on this disgusting, unethical, pathetic mess?Incompetent? It seems to me that The Scene did the solid reporting that everyone else was ignoring/covering up.OK, everyone. Here is the exportlaw system: No matter what you do, no matter how bad or immoral or unethical, especially if you are an elected official, no newspaper should ever reveal the facts because it might make you react badly. All wrongdoing should be covered up, just in case someone might be disturbed enough to do something stupid or irrational. No, don't blame The Scene. Blame Rob Briley for being a fool. And blame his brazen, apparently unrepentant mistress. Rob Briley may in fact be a victim, if only of his own weaknesses but Mary Littleton is a vicious predator, who exploited him to the max.Where are the trial lawyers? Do you think they'll do anything about it?

Hey, I am a liberal, and I am cutting these people no slack whatsoever.
One addiction to another!Or, he has a lot of bills to pay and needed some quick cash, no car so Title Max is out, roll them bones!!
I usually find exportlaw's opinions here sensible and well reasoned, but I can't agree with you this time. The Scene occasionally gets too much into the realm of pulp fiction in its style, but they're not writing actual fiction. If they are, let Briley sue them. Alternative papers often serve the great purpose that the old time gadfly newspapers used to be and that modern era corporate newspapers won't be. A watchdog. Unafraid to ruffle feathers at the capitol and bring the citizens the unvarnished whole truth about what their less than upstanding elected officials are up to.Digressing from that... this certainly isn't the most significant point in the story, but who the hell rents a car to someone who was recently arrested for DUI and hit-and-run?
This has progressed far beyond political differences..Rob's family and friends must surround him now with unconditional love and support, remove all extraneous presures from his life, and focus on Rob's well being. I hope Rob finds peace, strength and tranquility in his life. God bless him and his family as they travel the difficult road ahead.
