Metro police have identified the woman killed in Sunday afternoon’s four-vehicle crash on Interstate 440 as Tammy S. Santomango, 37, of Ramstone Way in Antioch.
The wreck happened at about 1:15 p.m. Sunday on I-440 west near the West End Avenue exit when Santomango’s eastbound 1997 Lincoln Town Car crossed the center berm for an unknown reason and entered the westbound traffic lanes.
Her car initially collided with large pickup truck pulling a trailer. That impact sent the truck across the westbound lanes of traffic to the right side of the roadway.
According to police, the driver of a 2002 GMC Yukon that was travelling behind the truck attempted to swerve but hit Santomango’s Lincoln and was then hit in the rear by a 1998 Chevrolet Malibu.
The Yukon traveled up the center berm, rolled several times and came to rest on its roof in the eastbound lanes of I-440.
Police say Santomango was not wearing her seatbelt and died at the scene. The three other drivers involved were belted and were transported to hospitals with non-critical injuries. There was no indication at the scene that alcohol or drugs contributed to the collision, according to police.
