Florida began the day with little in the tank and simply ran out of gas.
Freshman Brendan Pavlich sank a pair of 3-pointers in the final minute and Orien Greene missed a layup at the buzzer as Vanderbilt surprised the seventh-ranked Gators, 63-61, Saturday in a Southeastern Conference game.
Greg LaPointe had 17 points for the Commodores, who shut down the injury depleted Gators over the final four minutes.
Pavlich buried a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 61-59 with 56 seconds left. Following a pair of missed free throws, Pavlich drained another long-distance shot from almost the same spot in front of the Florida bench to put the Commodores in front.
Major Parker of Florida missed a jumper that could have put the Gators back in front, and LaPointe missed the second of two free throws with five seconds remaining. Florida raced quickly up the floor, and a pair of Vanderbilt defenders not wanting to risk a foul, Greene missed a relatively uncontested driving layup as time expired.
