Vanderbilt falls to Crimson Tide

Vanderbilt gave up five runs in the first inning that proved to be their undoing in a 12-4 SEC loss to Alabama Saturday in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Beau Hearod was the hero for the Tide, smashing two homers to end up with seven runs batted in. With the loss, the Commodores fall to 11-5, 1-1 SEC, while the Crimson Tide improve to 13-6, 1-1 SEC. Vanderbilt plays at Tennessee Tech Wednesday in an in-state matchup before hosting SEC foe Mississippi State in a weekend series.

Tennessee sweeps past Florida

Tennessee handed Florida a 12-6 loss in Gainesville, Fla., that saw the Vols break a 5-5 deadlock in the fifth inning with three runs to secure the win. Jeff Christensen led the Vols with four hits and four RBI, giving the Vols a 15-2 record and an undefeated record (2-0) thus far in the SEC. The Vols meet Eastern Kentucky at home tomorrow before Western Carolina comes to Knoxville Wednesday for a one-game series.

Bruins fall in ninth inning

Belmont dropped a heartbreaking 6-5 loss to Georgia State with the Panthers scoring the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning. The Bruins fall to 13-7 and go to Athens, Ga., for a two-game series against the Georgia Bulldogs before coming home to face Chicago State at Greer Stadium Friday.

Trojans fall short in 8-6 loss

Trevecca could not overcome a five-run deficit in the first inning and went on to lose the TranSouth Conference game to Lee University 8-6 in Cleveland, Tenn. With the loss, the Trojans go to 5-14, 0-5 TranSouth. Campbellsville comes to town today to face the Trojans in a doubleheader. Wednesday, the two teams go at it again for another doubleheader, before Berry College visits for a weekend series with the Trojans.
