An 18-year-old Whites Creek High School senior faces a felony gun charge for allegedly carrying a loaded .38-caliber revolver to school Friday.

Metro police officers assigned to the high school charged Shaquawn Odom after a parent of another student heard he might be armed and reported that to Warren Thomas, the school resource officer.

According to police, Thomas, along with Principal James Bailey, found Odom and then found the loaded gun during a search of his backpack.

Odom told Thomas that a friend left the pistol at his home Thursday night and that he was going to return it to the friend after school Friday.

Odom has been booked on a felony charge of carrying a firearm on school property with the intent to go armed.

He was being held in lieu of $5,000 bond.
