The West Nashville Sports League is a nonprofit community organization that has grown nearly 1,000 percent in its four-year existence.

In 1997, it started out as a basketball league with 130 school-aged girls and has grown into a league of both genders, consisting of 1,200 young people from 30 different Nashville area schools.

The WNSL was started by a group of five fathers whose daughters either played, or were interested in playing, basketball. Scott Tygard, commissioner of operations and founder of the league, said there was a need for it and he knew it could be done correctly.
