Metro Police Sergeant Mark Chesnut on Thursday was upgraded to stable condition and is awake and alert at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Metro Police said.
Chief Ronal Serpas was able to briefly visit with Chesnut Thursday afternoon for the first time since last week’s shooting that left him critically wounded.
“I am energized by Mark’s strong spirit conveyed during our conversation,” Serpas said. “He is a survivor in every sense of the word and is sincerely grateful for the prayers and expressions of concern from throughout the region.”
